This method is suitable for thin slate slabs up to 2 cm thick and is great if you want a smooth, right-angled edge, especially for visible edges. Light Oppdal slate is easy to split by following the same principle as splitting glass (score and snap).
What you'll need:
Score a 1-2 mm deep groove using a scriber or similar tool.
Place the scriber or another object under the slate so it is steady and aligned directly under the score line.
Apply your weight on either side of the score line until the slate snaps.
