This method of customization is ideal if you want to split a brick lengthwise. The result is an almost right-angled and precise edge, which works perfectly with our Minera RUSTIKK brick type. Oppdal slate's ability to be scored and snapped in this manner is unique, much like cutting a glass pane. This makes Oppdal slate especially appreciated, particularly when the visible edge is important, such as on the corner of a wall.

What you’ll need:

  • Scriber or awl
  • Blunt chisel

Score a 1–2 mm deep line with a scriber or similar tool.

Mark the back of the brick where the score line is placed, and make a marking.

Place something under the short end of the brick to create tension, ensuring it’s steady.

This creates tension in the brick, making it easier to split along the score line.

Strike with a blunt chisel along the mark on the back until the brick splits.
