Kongens Nytorv and Frederiksberg are two of 17 stations along Copenhagen’s new Cityringen metro line, opened in 2019. The line was developed with a focus on user experience and minimal urban impact, and is part of the city’s goal of achieving carbon neutrality by 2025.
Both stations are clad in antique brushed Light Oppdal quartzite façade panels, mounted with concealed dowel fastenings. The material supports the Scandinavian, understated design vision of the project and creates a visual contrast to other stations along the line, which use different stone types tailored to their specific locations.
All façade slate in the project is installed using methods that allow full dismantling and reuse.
