Segerstedthuset was completed in 2017 and designed by 3XN as an extension of Uppsala University’s administrative and public buildings. Located in the botanical garden, the building was developed with an emphasis on open common areas, daylight, and architectural integration with the surroundings and its users.
Floors and stairs are clad with antique brushed Light Oppdal quartzite. The tiles are laid in varying widths and combined with skirting boards in the same surface treatment. The slate was chosen for its visual calm and durability and is a key part of the material palette alongside wood and green tones.
The building is environmentally certified according to Swedish standards (Miljöbyggnad Silver) and has a low energy footprint. Transport distance from quarry to project site is 710 km. The building is open for visits.
