An angle grinder is a tool we generally avoid, but when you need to cut off just a few millimeters or make a small notch, it might be your only option, and it can be a useful tool. For most other slate cuts or shaping to desired forms, we recommend using different methods.

What You Need:

  • Angle grinder
  • Safety glasses, ear protection, dust mask

Draw a marking where you want to cut the slate tile.

Since an angle grinder is a noisy, dusty, and dangerous tool, it is important to use safety gear such as ear protection, a dust mask, and safety glasses.

Do not press too hard from the start, as this could chip the edge of the slate tile.
