Jotun’s headquarters and research centre in Sandefjord, designed by Henning Larsen Architects and completed in 2019, houses Northern Europe’s largest research laboratory for paint and coatings. The building is BREEAM-NOR certified at the “Very Good” level.
Slate is used for both indoor floors and stairs, as well as exterior paving by the sea. The material choice provides a visual and functional connection between inside and outside, and the antique brushed surface adds a subtle and robust expression to the architecture. The indoor steps are grooved for contrast marking, meeting universal design requirements.
The outdoor tiles are installed as a system floor without glue or grout, mounted on adjustable pedestals. This method allows the entire exterior paving to be fully dismantled and reused.
