Visit Kyrre Haugen Sydness’s cabin in Lillesand, Norway and see what a love for the natural surroundings has brought to the cabin’s outdoor area!

Kyrre’s cabin in Høvåg, just outside Lillesand, is newly built and has recently added a new guest annex.

The cabin is beautifully situated on a sort of ledge with a nice view out towards the Skagerak. It is surrounded by solid rock and pine trees. The family was very fond of the idea of integrating the mountain into the plot and thus chose Light Oppdal slate for the covering. To break up the look a bit, they have supplemented with some wooden paths and decking in between.

To create a natural feel and vibrant colors, they chose grass joints everywhere.

In the courtyard outside, they opted for a rougher look with crazy paving in organic shapes. Along the entire north side of the cabin, they have laid a path of stepping stones that extends onto the main terrace, where the stepping stones are laid in a rectangular pattern and close together. This creates a tighter look than in the courtyard.

From the cabin, you can stroll down to a shared bathing jetty for the cabin area. There, they have installed some generous and massive slate steps as part of a nature trail.

“I think it’s absolutely wonderful to walk barefoot on sun-warmed stones on a lovely summer day. It’s a very, very nice feeling.”
